Pomorie Lake: Walk along the sand strip

Pomorie Lake is separated from the sea by sand strip and artificial dyke, and it lays around the town of Pomorie. The sand of the beach is in black because of the iron oxides that contain. It is the longest beach on the Southern Black Sea – 6 km long. Moreover, the place is suitable for beach, walking, jogging and leisurely cycling, as the whole road is wholly level and wide enough. Along the sand strip, there were formed dunes during the years. On them grow rare and protected kinds of plants that need high salinity soil.

The locals call the area with the name “Ivitsata” ( “the strip” in translation).

Thracian dome tomb in Pomorie

The Thracian dome tomb in Pomorie is unique to the Balkan Peninsula. Archaeologists date it at the end of the III and the beginning of the IV century AD. For this reason, it is defined as the latest representative of the Thracian tombs for the territory of Bulgaria. Also, it is the most massive Thracian tomb in Bulgaria.

Tsarevo – the gate to Strandzha mountain from the Black Sea

Tsarevo city is spread over three bays with steep rocky shores, beautiful beaches and there is a large park by the sea. It offers excellent opportunities for holidays on the Black Sea. Primorsko: Boat trip upstream the Ropotamo River

Along with this boat trip, you can contemplate the dense forests on the banks, similar to a jungle, with creepers, many swamp turtles and water snakes. The vegetation is such abundant, so overhanging branches of the trees overshadow the river.

Overall, this trip is a small but easily accessible adventure in the wildlife around the town of Primorsko.

Primorsko: From Arkutino to the mouth of the Ropotamo River

As an alternative way to reach the mouth of the Ropotamo River, except for the hiking trail starting from Primorsko, there is also an eco-path whose start is at Arkutino Beach. Sequently is passing through Cape Caya and continues to the mouth. The path consists of an alternation of dunes and forest and the route is smooth and relatively flat. Along the way, you can see many rare sandy plants, moreover and the bizarre rock formations of Cape Kaya. This route belongs to Ropotamo Reserve.

Primorsko: Arkutino Beach

Arkutino Beach is one of the favourites of many tourists who choose the Southern Black Sea annually for their holiday in Bulgaria. It has beautiful features – extensive beachfront, high dunes – home to rare plants, and stunning horizon views including the Snake island and the green shores of Ropotamo Reserve. It consists of a guarded and unguarded part. Also, the location of Arkutino Beach is easy and accessible – right next to the main road connecting the towns on the South Black Sea Coast. Therefore the beach is a frequently visited destination by tourists staying in Sozopol and Primorsko, who diversify their vacation by visiting new beaches. In addition around the pier, the waters are shallow and even a few tens of meters into, the level is only knee-deep. For this reason, Arkutino Beach is a favourite place for families with young children.

Cape Emine – the northern end of Burgas Bay

Cape Emine is the northernmost point of the Burgas Bay and can be seen from far away from some of the cities located in it – Pomorie, Nessebar, Sozopol, Chernomorets. Besides, the Cape is a navigation marker for sailors and fishing boats. In this regard, there is a lighthouse at its very end.

Beside Emine is part of the Balkan Mountains and a place where the mountain meets the sea. Because of this, the shores here are incredibly steep – 60 meters above sea level. The site is mostly visited by vacationers who came to to the nearby beach of Irakli, as well as by hikers, passing the 600 km long mountain hiking trail from Kom peak (near Berkovitsa, West Bulgaria). Access to Cape Emine is difficult and requires either a high-speed car or a pedestrian crossing (at least 7 km).

Irakli Beach – spacious and inviting, shrouded in a forest mantle

Irakli Beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the Bulgarian South Black Sea Coast with its excellent natural features.

Most of the beach is entirely wild, surrounded by thick forest, which attracts fens of direct contact with nature. Because of its popularity, Irakli has become a symbol of escape from the urban lifestyle. Both campers and guests of the nearby big resorts – Obzor and St. Vlas visit it, for diversifying their holidays at sea.

Sozopol: Cape Agalina

The location of Cape Agalina is between the town of Sozopol and the Resort Duni. It is a collection of small bays and rock formations in an area with specific coastal flora and fauna. Tourists mostly visit rock phenomenon resembling a fjord. Also, the place is easily accessible, and walking is minimal. It is about 9 km south of the centre of Sozopol. Besides, the whole area around the Cape is declared a natural landmark.

Sozopol – the city of salvation from the monotony

Sozopol is the oldest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. It has a unique architectural appearance, and there are many historical sites on its territory that worth a visit. Besides cultural tourism, the town offers excellent opportunities for sea holidays, sports and entertainment as there are beautiful beaches here. Around the city, there are also natural attractions that you could explore.
